Glennys L. McVeigh was appointed to the Federal Court of Canada and ex officio member of the Federal Court of Appeal on April 26, 2013. She was appointed to the Court Martial Appeals Court on May 28, 2015.
Justice McVeigh was born on the family farm and was educated at Kenaston School in the Village of Kenaston, Saskatchewan. She attended University of Saskatchewan Arts and Science College upon graduation from High School. Justice McVeigh later obtained Certified Dental Assistant designation and worked as a dental assistant in private practice as well as for the Provincial Government in Northern Saskatchewan and for specialists at the College of Dental Surgeons. In 1989, Justice McVeigh attended University of Saskatchewan Law School in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and obtained her JD (LLB) in 1992. She was accepted to the Law Society of Saskatchewan in 1993 and obtained a RAC from the Law Society of Nunavut in 2010. Justice McVeigh articled and had a general practice with the Saskatoon firm Jamieson Bains until 1998, when she accepted a position with the Civil Section of the Federal Department of Justice. With the Federal Department of Justice she litigated a number of high profile civil matters. In addition to litigating, she was seconded for periods of time to the Department of Citizenship and Immigration in Ottawa as a Litigation manager and to the Canadian Consulate in Detroit, Michigan. From 2009 until her appointment to the Federal Court, she was a Prosecutor with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada, including the fly in squad for Nunavut. Justice McVeigh was the Federal Agent Supervisor of Federal Prosecutor agents for the Province of Saskatchewan and senior prosecutor until her appointment. Her parents, siblings, nieces and nephews all still reside in Saskatchewan, as does her eldest son and his family. Justice McVeigh’s youngest son and his family reside in Edmonton, Alberta.
