Madam Justice McDonald received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991 and a Bachelor of Laws in 1993 from the University of New Brunswick. She was admitted to the Bar of New Brunswick in 1994.
At the time of her appointment to the Federal Court in September 2015, Madam Justice McDonald was the Deputy Managing Partner of the Atlantic Canadian Law firm McInnes Cooper. Her law practice focused primarily in the areas of commercial litigation, employment law, administrative law, and regulatory matters. She appeared before the Courts in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Ontario and the Federal Court of Appeal. She also appeared before various administrative tribunals and regulatory bodies.
In her legal practice, Madam Justice McDonald was a strong proponent of legal project management, and in 2010 she earned the Project Management Professional (PMP) designation from the International Project Management Institute. At that time, she was one of the few lawyers in Canada to hold this designation.
On September 1, 2015, she was appointed Judge of the Federal Court and on February 25, 2022, she was appointed as a Member of the Public Servants Disclosure Protection Tribunal.
